The (negative) effects of social media on children

Post by bappy8 »

Should we expose children to (even more) social media at an even younger age? And can that be done responsibly? That question bubbled up again when I saw all the news reports about the Facebook Files. Among other things, the results of Facebook's own research into the negative effects of Instagram on the health of teenagers are under fire as we speak . As a result, Facebook decided to postpone their plans for Instagram Kids, a version for children aged 10 to 12, for a while.

If we know that social media has significant negative effects on the mood of teenagers, do whatsapp number list we really want a social network for even younger children?

For example, Facebook’s own research shows that Instagram has worsened the self-image of teenage girls and that many Instagram users feel ‘unattractive’ since using the app. Furthermore, using Instagram leads to a lot of insecurity (especially for girls) and bullying. And to pressure to conform to ‘social stereotypes’ and the feeling of having to be ‘validated’ through likes and comments. The effects are greater than with other apps. This is because Instagram puts more focus on the body, lifestyle and social comparison.
