Cloud security, a constant concern

Post by asimd5 »

Claranet has recently carried out a survey which shows that the perception of IT managers regarding Cloud technologies has not changed much since 2011, since a quarter of IT Directors in Europe continue to show reluctance to migrate their critical data to Cloud platforms, because they fear for their security, service continuity and reliability.

The research shows that 36% of respondents see preserving the integrity of their data as a barrier to taking the step, while 32% highlight reliability as their main concern.

At Claranet we believe that this concern is due belize email address largely to the lack of progress made by service providers in convincing customers of the security and sovereignty of their data in Cloud services, as well as not knowing how to communicate their numerous benefits and advantages.

To solve the problem of data sovereignty and integrity, providers must demonstrate that clients' data and applications are hosted under security solutions, with high standards of guarantee and protection.

In the case of Claranet, our commitment to guaranteeing the security of our clients' data led us last year to carry out a review and update of our General and Specific Conditions of Service, as well as a thorough review of the implementation of the LOPD. In this sense, our policy of continuous improvement in terms of security is now focused on the certification process undertaken a few months ago to obtain the ISO/IEC 27001 information security standard, as part of our strategic objectives planned for this year.

The reliability issue is another common barrier mentioned by IT managers, but we think it is an issue that can be easily overcome. Users are concerned that migration to the Cloud means that connectivity or the Cloud platform may suddenly fail, as well as that the providers of each service, Hosting and connectivity, pass the buck without solving the incidents. Given this perception, we believe that Cloud providers should invest in their own network infrastructure, integrating network and Cloud services under a single Service Level Agreement (SLA). If this is not possible, they should partner with network providers to offer comprehensive services where the network is part of the solution.
